MECCA - The MEX and MECCA script file language conference
Moderator - Gary Gilmore, 1:2410/400 (garyg@ack.mi.org)
1 - This echo is for the detailed discussion of MEX and MECCA script
command language files, which are used by Maximus BBS software.
Discussions that start to lean more toward Maximus or Squish should
be continued in their respective echos. English is the official
echo language here.
2 - When someone posts a message requesting help, please try to be as
helpful and accurate as possible. Blatant "RTFM" messages will not
be tolerated.
3 - This echo is restricted to SYSOPS ONLY. The only exception to this
is that a sysop may make it specifically available to someone who
is interested in Maximus/MEX/MECCA. It may NOT be made generally
available to users.
4 - Aliases are not allowed. Please post using your real name.
If you aren't sure, check your birth certificate.
5 - Avoid creating unneeded traffic. Many people pay long
distance charges to receive this echo. Stuff to avoid would be:
a) Frivolous items such as BBS ads, 'test' messages, "where are you
from" chains, multiple tearlines, replies to off-topic messages,
etc.
b) Encrypted messages, PGP signatures, etc, should be not used in this
echo. (If you feel the need for secrecy, use direct netmail, or better
yet, a telephone.) :-)
c) Space wasters... Signatures should be one line, tops. No additional
headers should be added to messages, nor "to/from/subject" or "cutesy
sayings" info in the top of (or anywhere in) messages, multi-line
taglines, hi-ascii or ascii "artwork", or huge amounts of over-
quoting. If a program (reader, tagline mgr, etc) is adding a lot of
extra junk to messages, DON'T use it here. We also don't care what
your "fidonet.org" address is. <grin>
d) Even though it may seem polite to do so, please refrain from
posting messages that say nothing more than 'Thank you'.
e) Please let the moderator deal with problems.
f) Please, LIMIT your quoting of other messages. (This should be obvious
enough without further explaination.) Don't *ever* quote
tag/tear/origin lines.
g) Ads for any *directly* MEX/MECCA-related utilities may be posted
(within reason, and not "War & Peace" sized) and discussed here, since
they pertain to MEX/MECCA.
h) Please don't question when future versions of Maximus will be released.
When you see Scott Dudley announce it, you'll know it's here.
i) NO OS BASHING! Discussions about the "superiority" of various
Operating Systems are not allowed. How to operate MEX/MECCA scripts
under various operating systems may be discussed on a *factual* and
polite level (without putting down other operating systems). This
also means, leave cutesy "OS put-down" tag/origin lines out of this
echo! (Act like a grown up, ok?)
6 - Rules of Common Courtesy apply at ALL times. While we have no
objections to a little bit of debate (as long as it is relevant
to MEX/MECCA), it should be kept at a polite level and not escalate
into a flame war. "How you should run a BBS" or "Fidonet Policies"
are -never- on-topic.
7 - HIGH BIT ASCII CHARACTERS are permitted in this echo provided
they are used ONLY in context with MEX/MECCA files, or to demonstrate
something directly related to them. Any other use is not allowed.
8 - No automatic file announcements are allowed, unless done via the
moderator. You may, however, help others find programs. When
doing so, don't just say "I have it"... include filenames to freq,
size, and what (if any) restrictions you have on file requests.
(We're not mindreaders here...) In the case of files via ftp, *try*
to include the site & directory location of the file as well.
9 - Don't gate anything into this echo, or this echo out to anywhere
else without prior permission of the moderators.
10 - If you have written a Maximus/Squish/MEX/MECCA program that you'd like
hatched into the SDSMAX fileecho, you may send it to 1:2410/400.
Please include a short description to be used in the TIC file.
(No "beta", untested, or commercial programs, please. <as per SDS
rules.>)
